Bristol Cathedral Trust has been fundraising for over 35 years to support projects in Bristol Cathedral, such as work to restore the 12th century Abbey Gatehouse including the ancient Norman Archway next to the Central Library. Other projects supported by the Trust have included renovation of the toilets, adding a disabled toilet, and renewal of the heating system boilers.

In addition, the West Window in the Nave of Christ in Majesty was restored with a gift of £150,000; the historic organ is being restored with a grant of £1,700,000; the sound system has recently been replaced at a cost of £500,000; monuments have been restored and made safe; history projects have been supported; and the archives have been catalogued.

Bristol Cathedral Trust is an independent charity created in 1989 to fund the preservation of the fabric of Bristol Cathedral. It is entirely separate to the Dean and Chapter. The Trust has been the formal fundraising arm of Bristol Cathedral for 35 years and continues to raise money for Bristol Cathedral.

Bristol Cathedral Trust has financial and property assets that are professionally managed by experienced Fund Managers and the Bristol Cathedral Trust Trustees, who make regular grants to Bristol Cathedral for specific projects related to the preservation of Bristol Cathedral and its historic contents.

Recently, Bristol Cathedral has become a charity in its own right, governed by the Dean and Chapter. This charity, and its financial position, is entirely separate from Bristol Cathedral Trust.

Leaving a gift in your will is a powerful way to ensure that Bristol Cathedral will always be at the heart of Bristol. Every penny donated to Bristol Cathedral Trust is spent preserving the fabric of the building, so you can feel confident that your legacy gift will be spent protecting and preserving Bristol Cathedral, ensuring that this precious building remains accessible for future generations to enjoy.

You can support Bristol Cathedral Trust in a number of ways. You might choose to make a donation, or to leave a bequest or a legacy in your will. There are two tiers of membership, single and joint. Single membership costs £150 per year; and joint membership costs £225 per year, covering two members living at the same address. The membership fee is used to support the charitable objectives of Bristol Cathedral Trust – namely to preserve the fabric of Bristol Cathedral.

The Fitzhardinge Society is a relatively small and very welcoming group of people who share a passion to help preserve the fabric of Bristol Cathedral, while at the same time enjoying a range of social events and fascinating visits to places of historical interest, both in Bristol and further afield.
